It is October 21st, 2015, the day that Marty McFly and Doctor Emmett Brown traveled from 1985 to the future (our present?) in Back to the Future II (1989). Even if you are not a fan of Back to the Future, you have surely seen the iconic souped-up DeLorean that Doc Brown and Marty McFly use to travel through time in the widely popular trilogy.

Given that today, October 21st, is Back to the Future Day (#BacktoTheFuture is definitely trending today) we can expect to see everything from self-tying sneakers from Nike to, you guessed it (or not…), an electric, self-driving and capable of drifting DeLorean inspired by the movies. All that is missing is the power to time travel, but it’s only a matter of time.

While Chicago Cubs fans are lamenting that the Back to the Future II prediction of the Cubs already winning the 2015 World Series has not come true, check out this awesome piece of future tech in action which was inspired by the film:

MARTY, as this self-driving DeLorean is called, in honor of Michael J. Fox’s character McFly, was built by a genius team of engineers from Stanford University. MARTY can execute perfect drift maneuvers all on its own – it really doesn’t need us humans.
